Program Goal
This legal study tour is planned to provide both formal instruction and meetings between American attorneys and judges and their colleagues in China. By comparing the legal systems and actual legal programs we plan to provide our registrants with relevant knowledge about the problems of functioning in cross cultural environments.
About CLE Approval
This activity is approved for California minimum continuing legal education credit by the State Bar of California in the amount of 5 hours and the Corporation For Professional Conferences, Inc. certifies that this activity conforms to the standards for approved education prescribed by the rules and regulations of the State Bar of California governing minimum continuing legal education. We anticipate that the trip will qualify for at least 5.0 hours for Continuing Legal Credit for Pennsylvania, California and other states.
About Your Final Report
Shortly after the completion of your program you will receive a final report detailing all educationally related time during the study tour. Your report can be used as a professional diary and to verify CLE credit as required. Your final report is designed to conform to the California Bar Association’s M.C.L.E. requirements.
Day 1 We depart San Francisco for Hong Kong via United Airlines. Connecting flights on United Airlines can be arranged from most U.S. cities.
We depart San Francisco via United Airlines flight UA 869 non-stop to Hong Kong. Enjoy complimentary entertainment, and meals aboard.
Day 2 (D) - Arrive Hong Kong.
City Garden Hotel
We arrive Hong Kong this evening. After immigrations and customs formalities, transfer to the first class City Garden Hotel for rest. Later, we enjoy a welcome buffet dinner at the restaurant.
About Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city with plush hotels, bars and restaurants at every turn. Outwardly the guise of British culture remains with wigged judges, afternoon teas, horseracing and English speaking people. But it’s still a Chinese city with a predominantly Cantonese ambiance. The unexpected side to Hong Kong - a territory of overgrown islands, temples, hills, beaches where everything is crowded but fits together, makes it a fascenating place to visit.
Day 3 (B/D) Today we sightsee in Hong Kong; tonight we take a dinner cruise and Evening Dinner cruise
Today we enjoy a city tour of Hong Kong and experience the best sights of this dynamic city. We will begin with a drive through of Hong Kong’s commercial center- the Central District with its high-rises and crowded pedestrians. Then we will travel to the Victoria Peak, the tallest peak on the island, via the spectacular tram ride straight up the mountain. Once there,we enjoy a panoramic view of all of Hong Kong and the Kowloon peninsula. Next we drive down the other side of the mountain to arrive at the serene Repulse Bay and revel at the scenery before visiting Aberdeen fishing village where fisherman and their families still live on their boats. Next is Stanley, one of Hong Kong’s most popular places to shop for souvenirs and arts and crafts items. Then we visit Causeway Bay, one of the most popular shopping and dinning areas of Hong Kong. We return to our hotel in the early afternoon. The rest of the day is free.
Incidentally, We have provided a museum pass for seven museums in Hong Kong and Kowloon that you can visit at any time. You can enjoy more of Hong Kong’s dynamism according to your own fancies. We also provide a city map and Mass Transit Railway map (Subway) which will make your exploration smoother and more enjoyable.
This evening you will be picked up at your hotel and taken to remodeled ferry boat for a cruise on Hong Kong’s famous harbor. We enjoy a dinner on board while we cruise by the shimmering harbor lights.
Day 4 (B,L) We visit Lantau Island and tour Po Lin Monastery with the largest outdoor bronze Budda in the World. There are many New Years Eve options. (City Garden Hotel
Today we visit Lantau Island, the largest island in Hong Kong. We travel by ferry to the Island and disembark at the fishing village of Tai O. We tour, the fascinating traditional fishing village where local fishermen still make their living by selling fish off the boat. We continue by coach to the Po Lin Monastery, home of the largest outdoor bronze Buddha in the world. We tour the monastery followed by a delicious vegetarian lunch. Next we visit Ngong Ping Village, a replica of a traditional village dating back to the turn of the 20th century. After that we take an aerial gondola down the mountain and take our motor-coach back to our hotel. This evening is New Years Eve and there are many optional festivities for you to join.
Day 5 (B) Welcome to 2010. Today
you’re free to follow your own agenda. City Garden Hotel
Today is free to rise late and relax and celebrate the first day of the New Year in Hong Kong.
Day 6 (B,D) We travel to Guangzhou (Canton) the largest city in Southern China. Incidentally, it’s a shoppers paradise.
Guangzhou Asia Intl Hotel
Today we travel by motorcoach to Guangzhou. We arrive in Guangzhou in the afternoon and transfer to the first class Guangzhou Asia Int’l Hotel. This evening enjoy a Cantonese dinner in one of Guangzhou’s famous restaurants.
About Guangzhou
Guangzhou (originally known as Canton) sits on the Pearl River and has a long history with the West, starting with the Portuguese in 1516. It is Southern China’s largest and most properous city with many generous shopping victories for tourists. Famous for its entrepreneur drive, Guangzhou has been transformed from a rural farming area into a busy high end metropolis. Guangzhou is world famouse for its abundant and excellent Cantonese food. A tourism highlight is the Shamian Island walk, which is a tour through Canton as it was in the 19th century. Sun Yatsen started his movement for a Chinese republic here in the late 19th century.
Day 7 (B/L/D) This morning we meet with lawyers, followed by a tour of Guangzhou. Guangzhou Asia Intl Hotel
We start out today with a visit with local lawyers. Guangzhou began the economic reforms under Den Xiaoping and it has a strong entrepreneurial culture. After our visit, we tour the city. Your tour will include visit to Yuexiu Park, Five-Ram Statue, Chen Clean Temple, Qing Ping Market and Shamian Island. We will have lunch along the way. Shamian Island is a captivating museum of colonial architecture located in the Pearl River. This is Guangzhou’s equivialent to London’s Kensington and Chelsea - a snapshot of 19th-century Europe in Asia.
Day 8 (B/L/D) We travel from Guangzhou to Guilin, the most scenic city in China. Tonight we enjoy a traditional Chinese cultural show.
Guilin Sheraton Hotel
Today we travel by air to Guilin, known as the best scenic city in all of China. On arrival, we tour some of famous sights including Fubo Hill, Reed Flute Cave and Elephant Trunk Hill. After dinner this evening we enjoy Chinese cultural song and dance show.
About Guilin
Guilin is one of the stars of Chinese and World tourism. For centuries Chinese artists nad painters have used Guilin as a standard for natural beauty. Its fame rests on its magical scenery with thousands of miles of limestone peaks that shoot up starkly from flat plains of paddy fields and lush bamboo groves. All of this can be appreciated from your Li River Cruise as you glide past the stark and beautiful scenery.
Day 9 (B,L) We take a Li River Cruise. later in the day we fly back to Hong Kong. City Garden Hotel
After breakfast we embark on a memorable cruise down the Li River. Incidentally, a cruise down the winding river is the number one scenic trip in all of China for locals and visitors alike. The Li River is surrounded by towering limestone peaks on both sides with unique fauna covers. We lunch aboard during our five hour Li River Cruise. Upon disembarkation in the city of Yengshu,we travel by coach back to Guilin for our evening flight back to Hong Kong. and the City Garden Hotel.
Day 10 (B)?We visit Macau, a picturesque old Portuguese enclave and the gambling capital of Asia. City Garden Hotel
This morning we travel by hydrofoil to Macau. Among the sights we see are the Avinida de Almira Ribeiro, the Main Square, St. Dominic’s Church, and the awe inspiring Sao Paulo and the Camoes Gardens. We will have time to visit the Macau’s many gambling casinos. Later, we return to our hotel in Hong Kong.
About Macau
Macau, a romantic enclave, was administered by the Portuguese from 1557 to 1999 when it returned to China. Filled with the flavors of Portugal, The Macau Peninsula is canvas of grand colonial monuments, beautiful church architecture and charming side streets. it’s a Special Administrative Zone within China and is allowed great autonomy is local affairs.
Macau, unique in China, is also the Las Vegas of Asia with gambling revenues said to exceed Las Vegas itself.
Day 11 After breakfast, we travel to the airport for our United Airlines flight to San Francisco, arriving there the same day where you can board your connectig flight home.
