Your Itinerary
Day 1. (D,S) We depart JFK Airport, New York  for South Africa via South African Airways.

Flight information will be provided with your initial registration documents.  Flights to South Africa usually depart at 5:20 PM.  There is a full inflight meal service aloft.

Day 2. (B ) We arrive in Cape Town  the late afternoon. Portswood Hotel

This afternoon we arrive in Cape Town.  Upon arrival we will be met and taken to the Portswood Hotel. The rest of the day is free.

About the Portswood Hotel
Situated in the heart of Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, the four star Portswood hotel offers superior accommodation and a relaxed atmoshpere. Guest rooms and suites are air conditioned and equipped with satellite television and full bath facilities, including hair dryers.  The Quarterback Restaurant serves traditional Malay dishes.  Light meals and snacks are served on the terrace and the cocktail bar is open through the late evening.  It also offers a swimming pool and 24 hour room service.

About South Africa
There’s much to see in South Africa.  Watching the big five wild life: - elephnat, lion, rhino, leopard, buffalo;  exploring Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful cities and sightseeing along its unmatched cultural and wine routes (along with wine tastings) or watching whales do acrobatics in the ocean.

The price of your tour to South Africa is about the same as a good escorted tour to Europe. About Cape Town
Cape Town, one of the world’s most beautiful cities, is often referred to as the Monte Carlo of Africa and has recieved many awards as the best city to visit in all of Africa..  It is the legislative capital of South Africa where the National Parliament and many government offices are located.  The Cape Town region is famous for its specacular scenery including the Cape Floral Kingdom, Table Mountain and Cape Point (known to Americans as the Cape of Good Hope) where you can see the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.

The majority of South Africa’s great wines come from this region which include the nearby towns of Paarl and Stellenbosch where frequent wine tastings are a way of life.  The “Wine Route” as it’s known is a truly beautiful drive through green mountain country dotted with vinyards and estates with Cape Dutch and Georgian architecture.

Day 3. (B, D) This morning we explore Cape Town and Table Mountain.  This afternoon we meet with South African nurses at Groote Schure Hospital.  Tonight we socialize at a welcome dinner.  (Portswood Hotel)

This morning we sightsee in Cape Town.  Among the sights we will see are Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, Comany Gardens, the Malay area of the Bo-Kaap,  Cape Town Castle and Table Mountain and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.

This afternoon we attend to our professional agenda and visit Groote Schure Hospital and meet witrh South African nurses.  Tonight we socialize at Africa Cafe - a picturesque restaurant located in the heart of Cape Town.

Day 4. (B, L)  Today we visit the Cape Peninsula, follwed by lunch at Bertha’s. (Portswood Hotel)

This morning we travel via Sea Point, Clifton and Llando to Houte Bay and continue over Chapman's Park to the Cape Point Nature Reserve and see the Cape of Good Hope where the Indian Ocean meets the Atlantic Ocean. Later we have lunch at Bertha’s Restaurant.  We  return to our hotel in the mid afternoon.

Day 5. (B, L) We travel to the Winelands for a a winetasting visiting the historic city of Stellenbosch and the Moyo Spier Estate.  This afternoon we drive to a township and visit a local school  and learn more about life in South Africa.

We depart Cape Town  for the Winelands, winetasting and visit the historic city center of the oak-lined town of Stellenbosch.  Stellenbosch is the center of South Africa’s wine industry.  Here we have lunch and take a wine tasting tour including a good selection of South Africa’s excellent wines at Moyo Spier Wine Estate.

This afternoon we visit Township Bo Kaap and and Guggulethu townships, visit schools, and meet with local people and crafters and learn about community life in South Africa.

Day  6. (B)  Free day in Cape Town (Portswood Hotel)

Today is free.  Perhaps you’ll visit Robben Island, a former political prison where South African President, Nelson Mandella was held for decades.  Those seeking adventure can cage dive with Great White Sharks in nearby Gansbaai.  (Naturally you will be in a protected area.)

Day  7. (B, D) This morning we travel to Johannesburg where we are met and taken to KWA Maritane Bush Lodge and see South Africa’s magnificent wildlife. (KWA Maritane Bush Lodge)

This morning we fly off to Johannesburg where we are met and taken to KWA Maritane Bush Lodge at Pilanesburg National Park.  We will arrive just in time for an afternoon game drive.

About KWA  Maritane Bush Lodge
KWA Maritane Bush Lodge is on the slopes of an ancient volcano and offers guests all the amenities of a prime resort. It’s located on the doorstep of malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park  where views are spectacular.  Here you’ll enjoy dawn and afternoon game drives, bush walks or sit at the lodge’s underground “Hide” and enjoy front row seats to the ‘Big Five’.  At days end you can recount bushveld tales around a roaring hardwood fire and enjoy a ‘Boma Dinner’.  All of its 90 rooms offer airconditioning, bathroom with shower, direct dial phone and hair dryer.  There are two swimming pools, a good restaurant and comfortable bar.

About Pilanesberg National Park.
Pilanesberg Nationla Park covers 58, 000 hectacres, is the fourth largest in Southern Africa, and is perched on a alkaline volcanic crater - one of three such craters in all the world.  Home of the ‘Big Five’ (lion, rhino, water buffalo,elephant, leopard) as well as hippos,cheetahs, crocodiles and over 360 bird species - Pilanesberg is a majory wildlife sanctuary.

Day 8.  (B,D)  Today we take an early morning game drive, followed by breakfast.  Later we visit a local health care facility and meet with local nurses.  Tonight we have ‘Boma Dinner’. (KWA Maritane Bush Lodge)

This morning we take another game drive in Pilanesberg National Park. This afternoon we meet with local health care providers at a dispenery.  Tonight we enjoy a “Boma Dinner” under the stars.

Day 9.  (B,D)  Today free for visiting Sun City Casino.  There is a shuttle bus from our lodge to the Casino. (KWA Maritane Bush Lodge)

Sun City is renowned as South Africa’s premier holiday resort with a multitude of attractions and activities to keep everyone occupied.  It’s most popular attractions are its gambling casino and golf courses.  Sun City conveniently connected by a shutlle service.


Day 10.  We return to Johannesburg, via the Magaliesberg Elephant Sanctuary for our flight to the USA.

We travel to Johannesburg for our return flight to the USA via the Elephant Sanctuary, located within the Magaliesberg Nature Preserve. While there we will have the opportunity to touch and feed the elephants and learn of South Africa’s programs to save them from predation.  Then we travel to the airport and board our return flight home in the early eveniing.

Day 11.  We arrive back at JFK?Airport, New York in the early morning.
