Day 1. (D,S) We depart New York for Kenya via South African Airways.

Day 2. (D, B) We arrive in Nairobi after making connections in Johannesburg.
Sarova Stanley Hotel

We arrive in Johannesburg and connect with our flight to Nairobi, the "safari capital of the world". Welcome to Nairobi; look forward to a journey through majestic, unspoiled landscapes to fabulous game reserves where the Dark Continent's incomparable wildlife is protected in its natural habitat. The rest of the day is free to relax.

Day 3. (D, L) Today we visit Kenya Creamery Cooperative and the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. Later we visit Karen Blixen's farm dedicated to the author of "Out of Africa" and even feed Giraffes. Sarova Stanley Hotel

This morning we visit the Kenya Cooperative Creamers, followed by a visit to Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage. This afternoon we drive through Kenya's modern, mile-high capital to the area of Karen Blixen's farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills and visit the museum dedicated to the author of "Out of Africa". Later we feed the gentle Rothschild's Giraffes at the Giraffe Center, and admire authentic African art and crafts at Utamaduni. Tonight we have a short briefing about the safari routine, and dine at our hotel.

Days 4, 5. (B,L,D) We are at the famous Samburu National Reserve Sarova Shaba Lodge

Today we proceed to the grassland area forming the bridge between Kenya's lush south and parched north. Look for herds of impalas, Grant's gazelles, and African buffalo as we enter Samburu National Reserve. On our second day in Samburu, a full day of game driving includes outings at dawn, when animals are most active, and in the late morning and afternoon, when it's best for photography. We dine at the lodge. Today we stay close to the Ewaso Nyiro River, where vast herds of plains game come to water, braving lions in the grass, leopards in the trees, and giant crocodiles. Not easily seen elsewhere are the liver-red reticulated giraffe, the long-necked gerenuk antelope, and the elegant Grevy's zebra.

Day 6. (B,L,D) We travel to Aberdare National Park and begin our safari at The Ark Tree Lodge where we'll see a wide variety of wildflife. The Ark

After lunch at the Aberdare Country Club, you'll venture deep into the Aberdare Mountains to The Ark tree lodge perched over a waterhole where animals refresh themselves. At night you can observe game from the spacious decks or underground bunker. Situated beside a floodlit waterhole and salt lick, a constant parade of wildlife visit throughout the night. There's no limit to the animals you'll see: birds and bushbuck, elephant, buffalo, rhino, hyena, and even the rare forest hog or leopard. Incidentally, the food here is excellent.

Day 7. (B,L,D) We visit the world's most important bird sanctuary at Lake Nakuru National Park where reedbuck, giraffe, bushbuck, wart hog, leopard and rhino thrive. Naivasha Simba lodge

Today we travel through serene farmlands to Thompson's Falls and then on to Lake Nakuru. One of the world's most important bird sanctuaries, Lake Nakuru is a lush green park and home to many species including reedbuck, bushbuck, wart hog, leopard, and the rare Rothschild giraffe. It has also been designated a rhino sanctuary.

Days 8 & 9. (B,L,D) We travel to the famous Masai Mara for more game viewing. Mara Simba Lodge

After breakfast, we travel to the Masai Mara, Kenya's most spectacular wildlife sanctuary. This is big game country and your home for the next two nights. The Masai Mara has been long-famed for having some of Africa's greatest concentrations of game. Staggering numbers of plains game are found here, which in turn support a tremendous predator population. During your afternoon game run, you have opportunities to see herds of impala, giraffe, elephant, topi, buffalo, and wart hog, as well as cheetah, leopard, and lion prides up to 20 strong.
